Fort Frances Curling Club getting some help from someone who will be inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame this weekend.
Lloyd Stansell was in Fort Frances the last couple of days putting the ice back in.
He’s known around the world for his ice-making abilities in the curling world.
He was enlisted several times to serve as the ice technician at national and international competitions.
He since stepped down from that role but continues to help clubs across northwestern Ontario get ready for their seasons.
“I’ve been coming here for a number of years. It’s just another of ice installation for the curling club,” says Stansell.
Stansell got his start in 1958 when was hired to work for the Red Rock Recreation Centre. He continued working in his home community for 22 years.
He was recognized last season by the Northern Ontario Curling Association as with its Ice Technician award. This Saturday, he will be formally inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in the builder’s category.
