Ontario’s colleges are wooing high school students across northwestern Ontario.
Fourteen are represented on the annual College Information Program tour which made a stop at Fort Frances High School yesterday.
Confederation College recruiter Sheena Zegil say they benefit with the ability to speak to more students at one time.
“It’s very important for us to get into the region especially because we are the primary college post-secondary institution in northwestern Ontario,” says Zegil.
Cambrian College student liaison Sam Paquette says having all of the colleges together in one location gives students an opportunity to learn more about each college and met with representatives.
“This is a great way for students here to talk to representatives us from Sudbury, Windsor, Ottawa. You got people from all over the place so I think it’s really great that the students have this opportunity,” says Paquette.
Conestoga College student recruiter Jason Humphrey says there are many benefits for the colleges to participate as well.
“Cost savings for all the colleges and we’re able to get to more remote areas we wouldn’t necessarily be able to afford by going on our own,” says Humphrey.
The college recruiters are at Atikokan High School today.
They will visit high schools to the east of Thunder Bay next week.
