International Falls has a new mayor.
Harley Droba was appointed to the position Monday, taking over from Bob Anderson who died suddenly last month.
Droba says there was no cause for celebration by his appointment.
“I never thought that I would be even in this position to have this conversation with our city council. It isn’t a celebration. It’s just a change of leadership under the situation of where we’re at,” says Droba.
Droba says he does feel comfortable enough to take on the job for the next fifteen months.
“I think my knowledge of where we’ve gotten to to this point is sufficient to be able to move us forward in our community but I also want you all to know I will not be in the same mayor that we’ve had,” says Droba.
With Droba handling the reigns of council, civic leaders will now focus on filling Droba’s former at-large council position.
Applications are now being accepted by the city until October 11 with the successful candidate likely being accepted during a special meeting on October 15.
