The Rainy River District School Board says schools will be open Monday whether there’s a strike by employees represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees or not.
The strike action will be dependant up what happens during centralized bargaining talks which are resuming later today.
Secretaries, Early Childhood educators, custodians and maintenance staff among those who could be off the job.
In a letter to parents, the public board says if the strike goes ahead, it will deploy central staff to provide support to teachers, but admits it’s unsure how long it will be able to keep schools healthy and safe for students beyond Monday.
They’ve also ended extra-curricular activities beginning Tuesday.
The Northwest Catholic District School Board is also preparing for a possible strike by its CUPE employees.
In a letter to parents, the board says it’s hopeful a new agreement will be reached but is planning for all contingencies.
It’s also encouraging parents to make arrangements for alternate childcare in the event schools are closed because of strike action.
Both boards are keeping parents updated through their websites and social media sites.
