An agreement has been reached between the town of Fort Frances and the company which owns the former mill property.
It resolves an existing tax bill issue and puts in place some guarantees on future bills.
Mayor June Caul says the numbered company connected to Riversedge Development is also allowing potential operators wanting to restart the mill to tour the facility and do their own assessments of the assets.
“It’s going to give us an opportunity to put some feelers out there and some ads out there for some other potential interested parties,” says Caul.
Caul says Rainy River Packaging is still interested but needs to regroup its financing.
The agreement allows for 90 days to do that search.
“If we don’t find someone, if we don’t have someone who comes forward in the amount of time that we have then we have given it all we’ve got,” says Caul.
While the town pursues someone interested in restarting the mill, the property owners can still pursue other interests.
A cannabis grow operation has been one suggestion offered up from Riversedge Developments.
