“This calls on the Premier’s office, the Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development as well as the Minister of the Environment, importantly, to attend panels with the OMA, working with them on the challenges—or the prospects, as we like to say,” says Rickford.
The meeting coincided with an annual Meet the Miners Day at the Ontario legislature.
Rickford says the province is committed to improving the competitiveness of Ontario’s mining industry.
“We want to translate those financial investments into activities up north. That’s why we’re working closely with companies to push them across the starting line and get digging.”
According to Rickford’s office, Ontario is Canada’s No.1 mineral producer, generating $10.1 billion worth of minerals in the past year while creating more than 26,000 direct and 50,000 indirect jobs across Ontario.
