Voyageurs National Park says snails collected from Kabetogama Lake in September have been identified as Chinese Mystery snail.
It’s an invasive species that is widespread in the U.S.
The snails are known to outcompete native species and become the host to a parasitic worm that can kill waterfowl.
At present, there is no way of completely eradicating the species once it is established.
