An exhibit recognizing the contributions of Indigenous soldiers from the Treaty 3 territory is back on display.
Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre is hosting the display.
It was first unveiled at the Fort Frances Museum last year.
Manager Kayleigh Speirs says they’ve since added more names to it since
“It’s constantly growing. That’s one of the main things about this exhibit. When we started putting this exhibit together we had maybe around 100 names of veterans from the area and it’s grown to be well over 300,” says Speirs.
Speirs feels it’s unveiling last year helped contribute to the exhibit growing.
“Something that the Fort Frances Museum noticed was just having a lot more engagement with the Indigenous communities in the area actually coming to the museum specifically to see that exhibit and in doing so they definitely contributed a lot more names and photos and things like that.”
The exhibit will be up at the mounds until the end of March.
Speirs says there is hope to bring it to other communities in the future.
We are still going to seek funding to be able to make it more of a permanent kind of traveling exhibit so we want to get it printed on more travel-friendly material.
