Rainy River Community College in International Falls will hold commencement ceremonies for its graduating students this Friday.
The event won’t take place on a stage. Instead it will occur online and in the form of a pre-produced video.
Provost Roxanne Kelly says they have been working on the video for the past couple of weeks and will post it to their social media sites at 1 p.m., the time when commencement ceremonies were supposed to be staged in person.
“We will have the traditional speeches. We’ll have messages from the Chancellor, from our president, and then we will recognize every single graduate who normally would have been able to walk across the stage,” says Kelly.
Kelly admits everyone is a little disappointed not being able to gather in person but feels the video will fill the void.
“We think it’s going to be a pretty good substitute. It certainly isn’t as good as being able to hug every single student as they walk across and get that diploma but a relatively good substitute,” say Kelly.
Kelly says graduates were mailed their diplomas in advance. They are also receiving a tassle and a couple of other safe keeps.
