A former Atikokan resident best known for his travels across the country by canoe is being recognized.
Mike Ranta is receiving a Governor General’s Meritorious Service Decoration.
It honours his past expeditions he’s done in support of the Atikokan Youth Centre and Veterans.
He holds the record for the longest solo canoe paddle for a trip he completed in 2016
Ranta now lives in Killarney.
He will receive his award at an official ceremony yet to be announced.
