Despite challenging conditions on Thursday, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry firefighters, both on the ground and in the air, kept a forest fire near Red Lake from getting larger.
The fire has been remapped to cover 552 hectares, down from the original estimate of 750 ha.
It is still burning about two kilometres away from an area known as the Buffalo neighbourhood.
Residents are being told to stay away until they get the all-clear sign.
Twenty, four-person FireRanger crews are assigned to the fire. Forty kilometres of hose and 70 pumps are in use.
Eight helicopters and two CL-415 waterbombers are providing air support. The waterbombers have dropped 800 loads or 5 million litres of water on the fire.
The Ministry says a hydro line between Red Lake and Madsen has been damaged, but hydro and telecommunication lines to the east are okay.
