The Salvation Army in Fort Frances will help some local children get ready for school.
Auxiliary-Captain/Corps Officer Arthur Heathcote says they’ll be giving away backpacks full of school supplies to the first 50 children next Thursday.
“It’s been a tough year for a lot of families, and we just want to help out and alleviate some of the stresses that come along with getting children back to school,” says Heathcote.
Heathcote says local donations are helping with the giveaway.
“We’ve got notebooks. We’ve got some coloured pencils. We’ve got pens and pencils and pencil cases, sharpeners, erasers and crayons, and washable crayons just the whole list. Sharpies, highlighters, washable markers, dry erase markers, report covers and tape. It’s going to be a full backpack.”
The Kiwanis Club of Fort Frances purchased the backpacks. Heathcote is appreciative of the club and all who donated in some way to make the initiative possible.
The giveaway will take place in front of the Salvation Army’s Scott St. location beginning at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 27.
