The situation in Winnipeg continues to get worse.
According to a spokesperson from Shared Health Manitoba, an outbreak at the Health Sciences Centre has been declared.
They tell us seven patients have tested positive. Enhanced prevention and control measures are now in place.
Those measures include the restriction of patient movement in the unit where the outbreak started and contact tracing for those who tested positive.
No information has been provided as to exactly where in the hospital the outbreak is centred.
According to the latest data from the Manitoba government, there are 3,772 active COVID-19 cases with 140 current hospitalizations and 21 in the ICU. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there has been an 8.5% positive test rate. That number is well above the 0.2% positive test rate in the Northwestern Health Unit catchment area.
The NWHU continues to urge everyone to stay in northwestern Ontario and not to head to Manitoba unless absolutely necessary.
