A chance to own Fort Frances landmarks like Point Park, the Memorial Sports Centre and Fort Frances High School.
They are some of the spaces you can land on in a Monopoly-style game called Fort Frances-Opoly.
The game has been created by Outset Media, which owns the rights to create Opoly-style games in Canada.
Senior Vice-President Jean-Paul Teskey says the Fort Frances game is part of a partnership with Walmart Canada.
Fort Frances-Opoly came to be because when we were developing new games for this year with Walmart, we both thought, myself and the Walmart people, both thought Fort Frances would be a fantastic place to create a game (for),” says Teskey.
Teskey says they have done similar games for other Canadian cities, but found the games featuring smaller communities were more popular than those done for Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal.
The Fort Frances game features several landmarks familiar to local residents.
Street names don’t have a prominent role as they do in Monopoly.
“It’s not like regular Monopoly with only the streets we feature. We do have your things like Scott Street, Idylwild Drive, Front Street, things like that, but we feature local schools, landmarks and even businesses,” says Teskey.
Downtown Fort Frances is the most expensive spot on the board, costing $425, with rent reaching as high as $1,700 with four city blocks.
The game is on a limited run. About one thousand are available.
Teskey says sales could dictate more being produced and made available in the future.
