With the forest fire hazard remaining high to extreme, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is putting the Kenora, Fort Frances, Dryden, and southern parts of the Sioux Lookout and Red Lake fire districts into restricted fire zones.
The order went into effect at midnight today.
Provided by Ministry of Natural Resources and ForestryInside the restricted zone, all outdoor fires are banned. This includes campfires and grass burning. The Ministry says portable gas stoves can be used but with caution.
As of Tuesday night, there were forty-one active fires in northwestern. Eleven are listed as not under control.
Province says there are 41 fires across northwestern Ontario. Eleven are not under control. Two are being held. Twelve are being observed, and 16 are under control.
Seven of the fires are within the Rainy River District, including one still burning near Naitcatchewenin.
The others are burning at the south end of Quetico Provincial Park and are being monitored by the Ministry.
The fire hazard is mainly high to extreme across the northwest, though it becomes low to moderate as you go east.
