A number of drivers in northwestern Ontario now facing fines after being caught for a host of traffic violations during a recent enforcement blitz by provincial police.
Operation Safe Driver was a North American-wide initiative conducted in mid-July.
The week-long enforcement and education campaign focused on commercial and non-commercial vehicle drivers who failed to share the road safely and engaged in risky driving behaviours.
Statistics provided to 93.1 The Border show 137 tickets were issued by OPP across the northwest region to drivers going too fast. Seventeen were issued against drivers of large commercial vehicles.
Five people were caught not wearing their seatbelt or wearing it incorrectly.
Seven failed to obey traffic signals.
Four were nabbed for distracted driving.
Four commercial vehicles were taken off the road for various violations or defects

- 120 speeding charges (motor vehicle)
- 4 seatbelt charges – MV

Across Ontario, a total of 2,927 charges were laid against non-commercial drivers. A total of 403 were issued against drivers of commercial vehicles.
