The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry reports nine new forest fires on Wednesday.
Two of them are in the Rainy River District.
One is near Missus Lake, about 60 kilometres northeast of Fort Frances.
The other is near Entwine Lake, approximately 90 kilometres northeast of Fort Frances.
They are among the 118 fires still active across the northwest.
Twenty-three are considered were not under control.
One of those is Kenora #51.
It’s covering nearly 200-thousand hectares and has burned within twelve kilometres from Wabaseemoong First Nation.
The evacuation of the most vulnerable residents of the community is taking place.
They are being relocated to Kenora, Dryden and Manitoba, and other locations in Ontario should a full-scale evacuation be required.
Chief Waylon Scott says the situation is changing quickly, and they want to find places for residents to stay as close to home as possible.
