The town of Fort Frances is looking for someone to run the canteen at the Memorial Sports Centre.
It’s been closed since March 2020.
Councillor Rick Wiedenhoeft says they thought they’d have it open in November.
“We had an agreement with the old operator. It was going to be opened on November 12, and that didn’t work out. He was then going to open it on December 3. That didn’t work out, and ultimately on December 8, the operator withdrew from the contract, says Wiedenhoeft.
The town is now looking for a replacement operator.
Manager of Recreation and Culture Aaron Bisson says staffing is a big obstacle for many companies which could do the job.
“A number of the potential operators are dealing with staffing issues, and staffing issues is ultimately what tanked the options from the previous operator,” says Bisson.
He’s still hopeful someone can be found and plans to reach out to caterers and other such businesses this week.
