Extracurricular activities, including high school sports, are also allowed to resume on Monday.
Students will be allowed to remove their masks when participating in sports or playing a musical instrument.
The Education Directors with the Rainy River District, Kenora Catholic and Keewatin-Patricia District School Board issued a letter to parents on Thursday clarifying the rules around the return of extracurriculars, including inter-regional sports competitions.
Events taking place in the school during the school day will be limited only to the students performing or competing. No other spectators will be permitted.
Events taking place outside of school hours, and inside a school will allow for one parent/guardian per student involved.
Provincial spectator limits and public health guidelines apply when the activity is off school property, such as at a municipal arena.
Overnight travel for sports teams remains on hold.
Board officials state it’s because of the continued threat of the Omicron variant.
Event organizers must also submit plans to school principals, outlining how they intend to ensure measures are met.
While high school sports return, there will be no provincial championship to play.
The Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations announced last month, championships for basketball, volleyball, hockey and curling would not be played.
Badminton’s championship is still scheduled to go ahead in May.
