Visual simulation of proposed tower location. Bell/Town of Fort Frances agenda hand out.
A company working with Bell Mobility to erect a new telecommunications tower in downtown Fort Frances says it has received no complaints or concerns about the project.
The tower is proposed for installation near Bell’s building on Church Street.
It will replace one that’s located on the former Resolute Forest Products mill property.
Canacre’s Evan Turunan says they gave the public 30 days to offer input.
“And although most tower proposals received some level of opposition, we are pleased to advise council and staff that no objections were brought forward to the tower location or proposal in general,” says Turunan.
Turunan says there will also be a temporary tower erected, known as a cell on wheels.
“To maintain service for Fort Frances during the intermittent phase of this project, the cell on wheels should be established prior to the decommissioning of the existing rooftop antenna and will be taken down when the proposed monopole becomes operational.”
Bell has NAV Canada approval but still needs Transport Canada’s okay before construction can begin.
The company is also seeking a support letter from the town as part of the process toward eventual construction.
Telecommunication towers are exempt from building permits, so none are needed from the municipality.
