Some residents are voicing their concerns about a planned expansion of an RV park east of International Falls.
Rainy Lake Vacation Campgrounds wanted to add 17 more spaces but has since reduced it to fourteen.
Most would be located at the north edge of the campground, near a Department of Natural Resources boat landing.
During a public meeting Tuesday, Barb Nelson spoke in length of the concerns she has with the expansion. She felt the area was already too congested.
How would you like to have 14 giant RVs placed next door to you. Fourteen new docks in a tiny little bay where we all play and children swim?” asks Nelson.
Other issues around location, road access and the impact on property values were also raised.
Bob Helke says many residents support the campground and its owners but not the location where the new RV spaces would be.
“I think that really destroys a good part of the value of the property around it. Especially (for) the people that have put a lot of hard work and a lot of money into their lake homes,” says Helke.
The Koochiching County Board of Commissioners delayed making a final decision until they had a chance to survey the property themselves.
