Ten-dollar-a-day childcare may finally be coming to Ontario.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joins Premier Doug Ford for an announcement today in Toronto.
Federal Minister of Children and Social Development Minister Karina Gould and Ontario’s Education Minister Stephen Lecce will also be in attendance,
Ontario is the last jurisdiction to sign on to the federally-subsidized program.
The feds had given provinces until the end of this month to sign on.
Premier Ford says there’s nothing Ontario back from signing a deal now.
“I think we’re good. We worked very closely with the federal government. They have been phenomenal partners as they always have been, and we look forward to the announcement,” says Ford.
The agreement is expected to lead to reduced daycare costs almost immediately.
Ford, though, said Sunday, the amount of money offered by the federal government wouldn’t reach the $10 dollar a day threshold.
“I’ve said over and over again $10.2 billion over five years won’t give us the $10 a day daycare, but stay tuned. We have a great deal with the federal government.”
