A former Fort Frances Mayor is being remembered.
Online tributes have been pouring in since a Facebook post announced Roy Avis has died.
Avis served as mayor between 2006 and 2018.
He was a councillor for nine years prior.
The long-time owner of West End Motors began serving in public office in 1980 when he was elected as a school board trustee with the Rainy River District School Board.
He was also a long-time member of the Fort Frances Curling Club, serving as its president from 1969 to 1982 and then chair for the next decade, overseeing the fundraising and construction of a new facility in the 1990s.
He was also served on the board of directors of the Fort Frances Power Corporation.
He served on a committee that led to the former Fort Frances Public Utilities Commission being transformed into the Fort Frances Power Corporation.
