OPP continue to see a drop in crime in Fort Frances.
Incidents of violent crime is down 9.6 % over last year, while property crime is down 16.3 per cent.
Detachment Commander for the Rainy River District Inspector Shaun Crabbe says mental health, drugs and alcohol often play into those incidents.
“We have various programs that either target that behaviour from a criminality perspective or from a mental health perspective, and the support. We try to maximize the impacts of those. Hopefully, we’ll see impacts like we’re maybe seeing now. That could be a factor,” says Insp. Crabbe.
OPP do report an increase in assaults which are up 9.3 per cent over the past year.
Thefts of property valued at under $5,000 are up 14.3 per cent, but break and enters are down 58.3 per cent.
