Some new officers for Treaty 3 Police Service.
A welcoming ceremony last week was held at Rainy River First Nation for five new constables.
Police Chief Kai Lui had this message for the new recruit.
“I hope that through your interactions that you will inspire others to either consider policing as a career or any other occupation that you could inspire them to,” says Lui.
The police service also welcomed a new constable, two cadets and three youth who will work this summer.
“These are initiatives that Treaty 3 has implemented in the last few years as a progression to have more of our members from our Treaty 3 territories to become police officers,” says Lui. “It is our ultimate goal that at some point in the future, these young students, that are working with us this summer, will become cadets and then from a cadet may end up being a special possible and then to be a police officer.”
The two cadets are part of a pilot program, working out of Treaty Three’s detachment in Couchiching.
