Fort Frances town council has agreed to hire two consulting firms to handle the jobs of Chief Building Official and Municipal Planner.
The positions have been vacant since November 2021, when former CBO/Municipal Planner Cody Vangel moved to a new job within the town.
Vangel was still filled in when necessary until two weeks ago.
RSB Building Consultants from Kitchener will now handle building services.
The town’s Chief Administrative Officer, Faisal Anwar, says the contract required the naming of four individuals.
“We are not going to get stuck with only one person. We are getting into an agreement with an organization, and anyone of them can provide us services as required,” says Anwar.
The cost to the town will be about $89 thousand for this year.
Anwar says that is close to what was budgeted for the CBO position.
There are some added costs to implement a software program used by RSB.
Anwar says the town can still use the software if the contract with RSB ends, which, he says, might streamline the building permit process.
For the municipal planning side of the position, the town will use the services of Fotenn Planning and Design from Ottawa.
Anwar says it will be used on an as needed basis.
“Whenever we have any zoning amendment application or planning matter which we need to refer it to a planning firm, then we can definitely get their services. That is estimated at $28 thousand.”
