Koochiching County Board of Commissioners is getting a better sense of what a new county jail may look like.
The engineering and architect firms involved are in the process of concluding schematic drawings.
They unveiled them to the board this week.
Wold Architects’ Courtney Korzeniowski says the next phase will zero in on the finer details of the plans.
“We’ll be meeting with each group. We’ll talk about casework locations. We’re down to the nitty gritty start, where outlets go and light switches. So we really get into and dive into that detail. And that’s the next phase,” says Korzeniowski.
The project is budgeted to cost almost 17 million dollars.
It is anticipated that construction will begin next spring, with the facility ready for use in 2025.
The new building would be attached to the existing courthouse building.
Renovations to the courthouse are also planned as part of the project.
Deficiencies identified by the State with the existing jail forced the County to look at a new building.
