Some improvements for the Rainy River District School Board in the EQAO tests.
Grade 3 students saw significant improvement in the writing and reading portions of the province-wide tests conducted last year.
Sixty-five per cent achieved or exceeded the provincial standard in reading, equating to a 10 per cent increase from the previous year.
Fifty-five per cent reached the provincial standard in writing.
There was no change in the grade 6 scores, with 76 per cent meeting the standard in reading and 74 per cent in writing.
Math continues to be a struggle for students.
Fifty-four per cent of grade 3s and 26.5 per cent of grade 6s achieved the provincial standard.
Both are below the provincial averages.
Fifty-four per cent of Grade 9 students also achieved the standard in math, which matches the provincial average.
In the Ontario Secondary School Literary Test, 85 per cent of grade 10 met or exceeded the provincial standard, an increase of 2 per cent from the year previous.
Seventy per cent reached the mark on their first attempt.
“We use EQAO results as a checkpoint to our local assessment data to identify areas of further development. Our results this year demonstrate the tremendous work of our staff to respond to the pandemic-related disruptions to the school system and to create the conditions for student success,” says Director of Education Heather Campbell.
