Koochiching County’s Sheriff’s Department is getting new tasers.
Fourteen units will be purchased for $40 thousand on a five-year payment plan.
Koochiching County’s Board of Commissioners approved the purchase at their recent meeting.
Sheriff Perryn Hedlund says they reached out to the company after an initial quote came in higher than expected.
“I think our initial quote was about $58,000. So, we really knocked it down almost about $1,000 per taser. We basically said, look, we want the taser. We want the holster because you have to because it doesn’t fit in the old holster, and we want the cartridges. We don’t want all the other fluff that you sell,” says Sheriff Hedlund. “We’re happy with what they came back at.”
Hedlund says money that was to be used to purchase new glocks will be directed to the first payment on the tasers due this year.
The Sheriff’s department is holding onto the ones they now use.
Hedlund says they will be used by jail staff and serve as backup units if needed.
