The Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team ended the Piper Classic in
Winnipeg by winning the B-side consolation final, beating NorWOSSA rivals the Dryden Eagles 6-5.
Klyde Laplante’s second goal of the game while the Muskies were shorthanded stood as the winner.
Ashton Veldhuisen scored three times with Ashton Armstrong scoring the other goal.
The Muskies opened the tournament on Friday with a 6-3 loss to the River East Kodiaks before defeating the Shaftesbury Titans 6-4.
On Saturday, they opened the B-side playoffs with a 6-3 loss to the Oak Park Raiders before facing the Eagles.
The Muskies girls hockey travelled to Atikokan for a pair of exhibition games with the Thunder Bay Queens on Saturday.
The Muskies dropped the opening game 3-2 before being shut out in the second 2-0.
International Falls Broncos girls hockey team lost 4-2 on Saturday to the Prairie Centre North Stars.
Lola Wade scored both goals for the Broncos.
The junior varsity team defeated Prairie Centre 6-1.
The varsity boys team scored a 2-0 victory on Friday over the St. Paul Johnson.
Asher Keep and Royce Allan scored for the Broncos, while netminder Kane
Thompson stopped all 16 shots faced for the shutout.
In basketball, the Broncos varsity girls team defeated Two Harbors on Saturday 72-57.
Piper Tomczak led the team in scoring with 22, while Lola Valenzuela added 21.
The junior varsity team was also victorious, scoring a 54-14 win over Two Harbors.
