More water is flowing through the dam on the Rainy River.
Additional gates were opened earlier this week to bring the level of Rainy Lake back to a more normal mark.
Recent rainfall around the basin led the lake to rise 4.5 centimetres.
Conditions were beginning to stabilize heading into last weekend but the level of Rainy River was rising due to increased outflow from the lake and tributaries like the Big and Little Fork Rivers.
This caused Rainy River to climb outside its normal range while the level at Manitou Rapids had increased by two metres.
With the recent rain, the International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board’s Water Levels Committee recommended that dam operators return Rainy Lake to its rule curves as quickly as possible.
The Water Levels Committee expects to see the lake’s water level return to the middle of the rule curve by the middle of June.
In the meantime, Namakan Lake is beginning to stabilize and return to its preferred level.
