The International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board is closely monitoring flooding conditions around the Rainy and NamakanĀ Lake basin.
As much as 125 millimetres of rain fell in some areas earlier this week, with the highest amount in areas that flow into the basin.
Parts of St. Louis County in Minnesota have been declared disaster areas.
The Board says it expects the amount of water coming into the basin to increase over the next week.
It says dam operators will be increasing outflows and opening dam gates as aggressively as possible to keep lake levels within their preferred range.
Rainy Lake is at approximately 85% of its rule curve band, while Namakan Lake is at approximately 52% of its rule curve band.
