Library workers in Fort Frances have unionized,
The thirteen full and part-time employees voted to join the Canadian Union of Public Employees,
The decision was based on issues with management, budget cuts and reduced hours.
“This has been a long time coming and we’re excited to start our collective bargaining process with CUPE. All we want is to be supported so we can continue to serve the Fort Frances community in the best way we can,” says Joelle Barron, who works as a part-time library clerk at the library.
CUPE is the same union that represents other town workers.
No mention has been made about when talks with the town will start on the workers’ first contract.
