The town of Fort Frances will review a request for parking changes around the Sister Kennedy Centre.
It acts upon a request from the centre’s advisory committee.
Councillor John McTaggart, council’s representative on the committee, says an increase in usage is forcing the need for additional parking.
“So, the center advisory committee is asking for some changes and some amendments to the present or current parking bylaws in that area. And I’d ask that this maybe go to administration for some recommendations,” says McTaggart.
The committee would like to see calendar parking on Nelson Street by the centre done away with between mid-April and mid-October.
It would also like on-street parking on the east side of Victoria Avenue where it is now restricted.
The issue of parking for users of the senior centre is not a new one.
Councillor Wendy Brunetta says there was some discussion when she served as council’s rep. to the committee about utilizing the parking lot on Nelson St.
“We did talk about the parking lot behind the St. Mary’s Church. I realize some people are not as able-bodied and can’t walk that distance, but we did talk briefly about maybe having a golf cart or something that could shuttle people back and forth,” says Brunetta.
A report to council is expected to come back at a future meeting.
