The federal New Democrat Party is raising questions about several social media posts that appear to show support for Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.
The NDP says they were noticed on the platform X following a rally in Kirkland Lake.
Some of the posts contain identical wording.
The NDP says they have come from accounts overseas, such as Russia and France.
“Pierre Poilievre needs to explain himself. Are the Conservatives using foreign bot farms to create fake momentum in Canada? This could be a disturbing practice run for what the Poilievre machine has in store for the coming federal election,” says Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus in a release.
The Conservative Party denies involvement and accuses the NDP of spreading baseless conspiracy theories.
“The CPC does not pay for bots and has no idea who is behind these accounts, states Sarah Fischer, Director of Communications, in an email to Acadia News.
“We are seeking the support of actual Canadians, as witnessed by large in-person turnouts at our events.”
Fischer points out similar messages dating back to last summer that promote Prime Minister Trudeau.
“We remain very concerned about any foreign interference and call upon the Government to release anything that it might know,” adds Fischer.
The NDP has now asked Election Canada to investigate.
