Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Kevin Holland is excited to be a part of the provincial cabinet.
He was appointed as the Associate Minister of Forestry and Forest Products.
Holland feels it is a good fit for him.
“When I was the mayor of my community, it was a big file for us. Forestry is a major industry in northwestern Ontario. Since my election, provincially as MPP, I’ve been engaged with the forestry sector right from the beginning to advance the opportunities and to make sure that lending a voice to the needs of the industry,” says Holland.
“So I think it’s a good fit. I’m really excited about this opportunity, and I am working with all the stakeholders and communities on this file.”
Holland says there are a number of issues and challenges facing the sector.
But he also sees tremendous opportunities and wants to ensure the province and industry are fully capitalizing on them.
Holland’s appointment to cabinet also gives northwestern Ontario more voices at the table.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford serves as the Minister of Northern Development and the Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation.
“That’s exciting, right? I think that really shows the commitment of the Premier and our government with regards to northwestern Ontario, having another voice at the cabinet table is going to be very beneficial to us.”
It has been a busy few days for the new Minister.
Holland says he has been going over briefings on various issues, what it means to be in cabinet and his specific duties.
He also took part in the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference’s question and answer session.
