Women are invited to Confederation College on Thursday to learn more about a new Heavy Machinery Equipment Technician program.
It will be offered at the Rainy River District campus in Fort Frances later this month.
Two information sessions are planned to provide information and offer potential students the ability to apply.
Campus Manager Brian Tucker says the pre-apprenticeship program will provide important hands-on training to move on to a formal apprenticeship.
“It’s geared to individuals looking to break into the trades industry, designed to provide essential skills and hands-on experience,” says Tucker.
“It’s going to include studies in math, upgrading, safety training, level one, heavy duty equipment technician training, and employment preparations.”
Students will also take on a paid eight-week job placement after completing the program.
As the campus does not have shop facilities, Tucker says they have been talking with others in the area where the practical aspects of the program can take place.
Provincial funding is allowing the college to offer the program to students at no cost.
“The program is fully funded, so tuition and textbooks are free,” says Tucker.
Students looking for more information can attend the information sessions scheduled on Thursday, September 5, at 12 noon and 5 p.m. at the campus.
Application can also be made online through Confederation College’s website.
You can also call the campus at 807-274-5395 or email FortFrances@confederationcollege.ca for further information about this or other programs offered.
