A new board overseeing policing in the western half of the Rainy River District is up and running.
Members, this week, were officially sworn into the new OPP Detachment Board during an inaugural meeting.
Fort Frances councillor John McTaggart was elected chair.
“It’s going to be a learning curve for the board and for all communities as we work our way through this process,” says McTaggart.
“I’m excited about what we have to come and the challenge that lays before us.”
The new board is the result of changes to the Police Services Act.
It represented the nine communities from Fort Frances and Rainy River.
There are still some policies and procedures to be worked out, including remuneration for members of the board.
A budget also has to be determined.
