Efforts to increase public input into the Fort Frances budget process have brought a long list of requests for council to consider.
More than 300 people offer suggestions through surveys and outreach sessions.
A public meeting drew only two letters, with the author of one making a presentation to council.
Natalie Donaldson calls for improved safety measures on Scott Street that help children and others cross the street safely to get to school, the library and the Memorial Sports Centre.
“I can think of no better use of budget funds than to help protect our most vulnerable citizens and work towards creating a more walkable and safe community every day in our neighbourhood,” says Donaldson.
“I watch the kids walking to school, parents and grandparents walking babies in strollers, people using mobility scooters, senior citizens going for walks, and I think about my own personal experiences with walking everywhere. I have witnessed far too many near misses to not bring this to the attention of council.”
Other suggestions were presented in surveys compiled from the information sessions held in August and early September.
Infrastructure, public safety and public health were identified as the top three priorities.
Others were economic development, long-term care, snow and ice removal, affordable housing, emergency management, communication and transparency, and social issues.
