Some funding for after-school programs.
The provincial government is doling out $15 million to more than 100 organizations that run supervised activities for children and youth.
Several programs in northwestern Ontario are among those receiving money.
The Ministry of Sport says the money helps municipalities, First Nations and not-for-profit groups continue programs and expand access.
“Our government is proud to support opportunities for children and youth throughout Ontario to lead active and healthy lifestyles,” states Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport, in a release.
“This funding will expand access to vital resources and enable partner organizations to continue delivering high-quality, tailored active recreation programming that aligns with the needs of local communities.”
The ministry says the funding will help more than 13-thousand children and youth in more than 80 communities enjoy supervised sports and recreation activities.
Some of the money is also going to Special Olympics Ontario to expand its Unified Sport Program to more schools.
Another $100,000 is being issued to Jays Care to help more girls benefit from sports programming and train educators and coaches on inclusion in sport.
