The Borderland Snowmobiling Club is preparing for a new season.
Snow may still be several weeks away, but the club is actively raising money to set up another warming shelter on its trails.
Member Frank Sheppard says it offers snowmobilers a place to stop and warm up.
“There’s only one in the system, so we’d like to put another one somewhere within the areas where there’s not a whole lot of access to places where you can stop for a restaurant or fuel and get a chance to warm up a bit,” says Sheppard.
The club was a recipient of a Driver-for-a-Cause event at Fort Frances GM which raised $1,700 for the project.
Sheppard says the club receives money for the maintenance and grooming of trails, but additional expenses have to be covered through fundraising and donations.
The club has a warming hut located on the trail between Barwick and Stratton on the Sturgeon River.
Sheppard says they are still discussing the exact location for the new one.
“The route probably that’s most likely would either be Nestor Falls to Sioux Narrows or Emo up to Nestor Falls. It has some pretty long stretches without any places where you could get shelter or protection.”
