Several school boards in northwestern Ontario have been impacted by a data breach of a company that manages student information.
They report PowerSchool notified them this week about the breach that occurred over the Christmas holiday break.
PowerSchool is used by thousands of school organizations across North America to manage student data like enrollment, grades, attendance, and schedules.
Teachers, administrators, and families use it to track academic progress and attendance.
Area school boards say they are still assessing the breach, but are taking steps to ensure the protection of other systems.
PowerSchool has stated the information accessed was deleted and no copies were made.
It is also telling boards the system is again secure and usage can continue without the need for any changes.
