The province is helping to expand the research and development of technologies using critical minerals.
Seventeen projects will share seven million dollars.
The funding comes through the Critical Minerals Innovation Fund, established two years ago and extended to a second round last May.
Mines Minister George Pirie says it strengthens a made-in-Ontario supply chain.
“These initiatives will drive the innovation needed for the future. The future’s cutting-edge technologies and tools helping build up Ontario’s competitive advantage, supporting future economic growth and showcasing to the world that Ontario is a reliable partner and one of the best places in the world to do business,” says Pirie.
The projects benefiting span a range of areas, including mineral exploration, extraction, processing, advanced manufacturing, and recycling of minerals.
Pirie says Ontario is committed to driving investment and boosting global competitiveness.
The Mines Minister says it is why the government supported the Critical Minerals Innovation Fund and added another $15 million to bring its investment to $20 million.
“The world is racing to secure the reliable sources of critical minerals that are needed to fulfill the technology and build our economy and enhance our national security. And now is our time to seize this generational opportunity.”
