The town of Fort Frances intends to re-tender planned improvements to the fire hall.
Previous bids came in two and three times higher than expected.
Transportation Superintendent Cody Vangel says the discrepancies are often how project estimates are done.
“We certainly see we have some wide-ranging numbers here from our estimates to actual bids,” says Vangel.
Vangel says they will rethink how the project can be completed before re-tendering in hopes of a lower price.
This could include completing the work over two years.
“We’ll take into consideration the construction works that we feel we can fit within the allowed allowable budget this year and look at the least amount of impact that future stages may require in terms of mechanical.”
Vangel admits prices could go higher, especially with the pending trade tariffs from the U.S. that could impact some components.
Last August, the town received $366,375 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund for the renovations.
