A Fort Frances High School student is taking her vocal talents to a national stage.
Cassandra Star is one of the contestants to appear on season 5 of Canada’s Got Talent.
Star has performed from a very young age but admits she felt a bit nervous in front of judges Shania Twain and Howie Mandel.
“I’ve never been that nervous in my life for anything,” says Star, “but because (it’s) Shania and Howie, and it’s just insane. But it was so amazing because everybody backstage was so supportive and so nice. It made it a little bit less nerve-wracking, but it was still crazy.”
Star applied to be on the show last March, later receiving the invite to the auditions that were taped last October in Niagara Falls for broadcast this spring.
She says it was an experience of a lifetime.
“I’ve grown up watching the Got Talent series. When we saw them post that auditions were being taken, we sent one in right away because we were so excited. We got a message back from Simon, the director, and it was just so surreal. It happened so quickly, and it was just amazing.”
Star can not say what she sang or how she did.
She also had to keep her Canada Got Talent audition under wraps until now.
Since the audition, Stars sang the national anthem at home games for the NBA’s Toronto Raptors and AHL’s Manitoba Moose.
She is also part of the cast that will perform her school’s latest musical, Curtains, next month.
Star is not certain when her segment will air.
Canada’s Got Talent Season 5 debuts on Tuesday, March 18th on CityTV.
The winner will receive $1 million plus an extra $50 from Mandel.
Every contestant that receives a Golden Buzzer earns a trip to the live performances and $25,000.
