Federal Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre wants to unlock the potential of the Ring of Fire mining area.
He says within six months of becoming Prime Minister, he will approve all federal permits to help speed up the mining of the critical minerals it poses.
He is also committing one billion dollars to help build the roads to make access easiser.
“It would be life-changing for northern Ontario towns, galvanizing thousands of paychecks and modern infrastructure,” says Poilievre.
“It would help our first nations become richer. It would boost our economy with billions of dollars, allowing us to become less dependent on the Americans after we start selling those resources overseas.”
Poilievre accuses the governing Liberals of trying to block the project.
He says the government has been sitting on permits for five years and suggests efforts to mine in Ring of Fire are on the verge of collapse.
He says First Nations communities are strong supporters of the project, noting he met with the Chiefs of Webequie and Marten Falls.
“They have actually met with me and asked for this project to go ahead as soon as possible because they know it will make them richer and better off for the future.”
Poilievre says federal investments in the Ring of Fire can also count toward Canada commitment to NATO’s defence spending target with critical minerals needed for military applications.
