Fort Frances could be home to the next Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) unit in northwestern Ontario.
Riverside Health Care says it will kick off a major fundraising campaign at the end of the month for an MRI unit at LaVerendrye General Hospital.
Riverside says a new MRI will advance its diagnostic imaging department and provide service closer to home for patients now travelling out of the community.
A MRI provides detailed images of the body’s organs and tissues through the use of a magnetic field and computer-generated radio waves.
No dollar figure to the campaign is immediately released but there has been some fundraising in the community by local businesses and organizations in support.
To assist, Holly Kaemingh has been hired as Riverside’s new Director of Fundraising.
The announcement comes amidst similar campaigns taking place in Kenora and Sioux Lookout.
Hospitals in those communities were approved for MRI units by the Ministry of Health last fall.
