Some improvements to the 52 Canadians Rink in Fort Frances are poised to begin soon.
Thunder Bay-based Tom Jones Corporation is being recommended for the job, coming in at $151 thousand.
The town’s Asset Management Coordinator Adam Mitchell says the first phase is a new concrete slab under the bleachers creating a storage site.
“We have some HVAC work that’s going on down there as well. We just want to give us more room, not only for the facility but for the town as well. It’s being utilized right now to kind of the best of his ability, but we’re just looking for a good improvement,” says Mitchell.
There are also plans for a new sprinkler system. Under the work plan, the installation would take place next year.
The arena currently does not have one.
“We are hoping just to tie into Ice for Kids, but that might not be an option. We’re going to that up to the professionals. Something we’re looking into, but 52 Arena does not have a sprinkler system. We’re going to make sure the entire facility is properly designed,” says Mitchell.
Fort Frances town council will be asked next week to approve the contract.
