A commitment to meet again.
That was the outcome of a first meeting between the Ontario Nurses Association and Premier Doug Ford over the nursing shortage.
The ONA also appealed to the Premier to kill Bill 124, which restricts wage and benefit increases, many labour groups say is to blame for the shortage in the health care sector.
The Premier did not commit to repealing the bill.
“While I am deeply disappointed that the Premier did not commit to repealing Bill 124, I am hopeful that our meeting next week will be productive,” says ONA President Cathryn Hoy.
“While we have agreed to meet with government again, ONA and our members will not be strung along with endless meetings,” adds Hoy.
Hoys says their front-line members have been going above and beyond the call to care and expect to see action.
Hoy says the Premier, Health Minister Christine Elliott and government officials met with ONA after a barrage of social media.
The ONA says the province has the worst RN-to-population ratio in Canada and needs more than 22,000 RNs just to catch up.
