It is Treaty Night at tonight’s Lakers game.
The team is raising awareness about the signing of Treaty 3.
Head Coach Tyler Miller feels it is important to recognize the document that is celebrating its 150th anniversary.
“We decided to have the Treaty signing document in honour and respect the treaty land we play on and along with this, help bring awareness of the Treaty relationship. It’s more than just saying it over an announcement. It’s acknowledging it and spreading the word of what’s going on within the Treaty Three territory and raising that awareness and relationships,” says Miller.
There will be an on-ice ceremony before the game, with the Lakers wearing custom jerseys to be raffled off.
The team partnered with Seven Generations Education Institute for the festivities.
On Saturday, the team is hosting the first-ever tailgate party in the Fort Frances Public Library and Technology Centre parking lot.
The event will include food, entertainment, vendors, games, and prizes.
This includes entertainment by 2-Tone Music, bouncy castles by Dom’s Inflatables, donuts courtesy of the Kiwanis Club, and the presence of the Zambroni.
“The community event is to bring awareness of what’s happening with our Junior A team. We’re coming out in full swing here, being involved in the community, and we want to give back to the kids,” says Miller.
It is also a chance for the public to meet the players.
“We just really want to give back to the community by doing events like this because they support us, and we’re very thankful for the support we get throughout the community,” says Miller.
The event goes from 1-6 p.m.
